Free-to-play shooter Loadout will launch on January 31, developer Edge of Reality announced today. The unique spin lets you craft weapons from various attributes, and the studio boasts that this can result in more than 44 billion weapon combinations.

It's already available to play in beta on Steam Early Access, but the end of this month will finally mark the official launch. We tried a much earlier iteration in 2012, and found even then that the crafting system was pretty deep. Edge of Reality says it's spent three years fine-tuning the concept.

“After spending the last two decades contributing to the development of some amazing franchises, like Mass Effect, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, The Sims, and Dragon Age, Loadout is our studio’s first original IP, and we couldn’t be more excited to open it up to the masses,” said CEO Rob Cohen, in the announcement. “We started this as a passion project, working on it when we could, and trying to create something original and truly player friendly. What we’ve got now is a game that’s a blast to play, quick and easy to get into, and empowers players with insane amounts of customization.”
