Titanfall alpha invites being sent to Battlefield 4 players

Titanfall alpha invites are going out to a limited number of randomly selected Battlefield 4 players. Participants are told to wait for further instructions after a short sign-up application.

If you're a Battlefield 4 player and registered with EA's Origin service, you may want to check your e-mail today. The company is sending out alpha trial invitations for Respawn's debut game Titanfall to randomly selected users.

Joystiq reports that clicking on the invitation leads to the alpha application, which it says has "extremely limited" availability. It also notes that the alpha trial will be running on Xbox One. Alpha participants aren't able to jump right into a Titan, though. Players will have to wait for further details, making this step only the first part of the first test. It's a long road ahead until the Titans start dropping on March 11.

I guess they assumed Battlefield players are so used to playing broken games that they'd be perfect for testing the alpha build.

"Alpha"? For a game launching in two months?

No, EA just doesn't give a shit about QA. SimCity's beta testing started 2 or 4 weeks before launch (can't remember which one), and lasted 4 hours total.

Sounds like a sever load test.

EA doesn't own Respawn. They aren't making the decisions here.

eh, they got in with EA through the EA Partners program (though it's now gone). pretty much everybody had good things to say about that

Their relationship with Respawn is similar to their relationship with Crytek, not DICE or Maxis. This isn't analogous to Sim City and Battlefield 4.

Well, I don't have the money for that bridge at the moment but if you wire me $10,000 now I'll send you $15,000 later this month. My brother is a Nigerian Prince, you know.

This is false. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Also, external milestone messaging != internal development milestones.

Heh, a fair point. I guess it's "no-one can say bad things about possible bugs if we call it an alpha".

      My Origin thing says

      "Origin Unifies Your Gaming Life

At home and on the go, Origin is the gateway to your entire gaming universe"

What kind of retarded bullshit is that? Does EA really think that I only play games that are on Origin? I mean someone actually had to write that little statement down. Who is this person? I want to find this person and ask them what the fuck they were thinking.

EA has consistently taken the market-leader approach to advertising Origin, they pretend like they don't have any competition.

I'm sure they know better but some marketing suit must think it is a good strategy because they keep doing it.

It is a good strategy for a service where the experienced gamers just put up with Origin but many of their new users aren't familiar with services like Steam.

Marketers aren't always stupid, it's just disgusting mostly.
