MLB Advanced Media reviving R.B.I. Baseball

Major League Baseball is stepping in to fill the void left by the MLB 2K series by reviving the beloved R.B.I. Baseball franchise. R.B.I. Baseball '14 will come to current and next-gen consoles, as well as smartphones and tablets, in Spring 2014.

Now that 2K Sports' hold of the MLB license has expired, it looks like this void will be filled by Major League Baseball itself. MLB Advanced Media sent out a press release late Tuesday night revealing that they would be reviving a classic and long-dormant NES franchise with R.B.I. Baseball '14.

The new R.B.I. Baseball website simply shows a Spring 2014 release date, but also shows that it will be coming to current and next-gen consoles, as well as tablets and mobile devices.

For those that might be too young to remember the days of old-school R.B.I. Baseball, here's a video (courtesy of NES Guide) to give you a quick overview. Baseball games sure used to be a lot simpler back in the '80s.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

"CURRENT AND NEXT GENERATION CONSOLES AND MOBILE DEVICES"

Doesn't say, but doesn't necessarily rule it out.

More companies should just watch Gerstmann's Bombastica for ideas.

1.000 is where it's at. I defy anyone to beat the 453 home runs I hit in one season with BRET.
