New World Interactive has completed development on their beefed-up Half-Life 2 mod, Insurgency. Following roughly nine months on Steam Early Access, the squad-based tactical FPS is now set to officially launch on January 22 for PC and Mac.

Built on Valve's Source engine, Insurgency seeks to bring the FPS genre to its essence. Players will need to accustom themselves to ultra-realistic gun physics, while also coordinating with teammates to execute successful strikes against the enemy.

Insurgency originally started life as "Insurgency 2," a follow-up to 2007's Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat. New World Interactive had previously opened a Kickstarter campaign, but ultimately fell short of their initial goal before polishing the game enough to take it to Steam Early Access.

Insurgency will support competitive multiplayer for up to 32 players, while also offering 6-player co-op. For more, check out the trailer below.

But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
