Battlefield 4 launched in a wonky enough state that disgruntled shareholders have launched a class-action lawsuit over how it effected EA's share price, but bless its heart, developer DICE has been trying. The PC edition has received a new patch today, targeting more of those nasty crashes, and both PlayStation 4 and PS3 versions are being patched tomorrow too.

The PC client patch notes explain that it's fixing several specific crashes and deadlocks, so check them if you've been suffering. It also brings fixes for assorted bugs and "improving general stability," and tweaks balancing of jets a bit.

It was accompanied by a server update fixing five server crashes too.

As for what the PlayStation patches will bring, that's unconfirmed for now, but they're likely to bring balance tweaks over and their own selection of bug fixes.

I was getting shot through thick rock walls last night. The airblast goes through walls?

Airburst is designed to flush people out of cover. You can target a wall and have it explode 3ft behind.

Related but apparently China Rising had levolution but was cut out?

After being such a huge fan of Paracel Storm, I would have loved to see some of that. Hopefully future DLC don't get rushed and get proper levolution stuff. :(

Is is STILL crashing?? I stopped playing 8 weeks ago because I just could not stand the bugs anymore and went back to World of Tanks. I bought Premium too, hopefully they'll fix this mess soon

Still sound loop crashes for me (and a couple of friends), even if less frequent than at launch, when it was literally unplayable for me. I'm going to give it a shot tonight, hopefully 2 months have been long enough for them to get the game to a launchable state.

I got server connection problems the last couple days but have been lucky so far with only a couple crashes. Admittedly I've only had it since the Origin sale but I've put 50+ hours in so far without too much trouble.

I don't crash at all honestly the game is totally fine for me and I'm on a nothing special rig. i5 3750K, 8gb RAM, 560Ti.

Combined with the fact that I got a new SSD, even if I did crash I'm not sure how much I'd care because the game loads in like 10 seconds as opposed to the 4-5 minutes previously lol!

I stopped for a while and it crashed on my twice in 5 mins. After that, it seemed to be ok. I guess it was just getting the cobwebs out.

I crash every map or two, pretty insane. I had the exact same problem in BF3 with a different hardware setup, so it's extra frustrating that the same sound-repeat crash issue wasn't addressed with BF4.

I haven't had a crash in weeks. But I have had some issues connecting to games in the last week or so. Sometimes I would have to try to connect two or three times before it was successful, but once I'm in the game it's fine.

In answer to your question, yes, it's still having crash issues. A lot of people are having less/no crashes, but it's still frequent for some.

The game still crashes but they are no where near the frequency that they were at launch. You will still get randomly disconnected and thrown to desktop or dashboard. The problems with the game are mostly with the netcode at the moment really.

I stopped playing about a month ago, partly due to crashing.
My game was crashing about every 3 maps, wonder if it was a memory leak issue that is noted there.

-Fixed a bug where a M1 Abrams Coaxial HMG ammo box was occasionally blocking the driver’s camera

I kept getting this PITA bug.

Patch notes don't go into net code fixes?

      - Normalized repair rates across all vehicles. Vehicles with lower health points, like aircraft and transport vehicles, now repair more slowly than before.

Does this mean that the scout chopper/Engineer combo won't be super OP now? That shit was getting old, fast.

      • reply
        January 13, 2014 12:19 PM

I hope so. I don't think it's nearly as OP as it was in BF3, but could probably use a slight nerf.

Related, but did hitting a chopper with a rocket in BF3 fuck it's controls and make it dive/roll like in BF4? I think that's one of my favorite things about this game, love hitting the side of a low flying heli just to watch it barrel roll into a roof!

It didn't in BF3, but if you actually hit them, it normally made them crash. Of course, that was after they slowed the cool down on the flares. Right now, they just buzz around and it can take 2-3 rockets at the same time to bring them down with how fast they get repaired.

Unless you nail them with a SRAW (suprisingly easy to do since choppers like to hover when they're not evading AA lock-on).

It took me four stingers to take down a little bird tonight. It had an engineer in it. I was amazed that I got it down.

Two engineers can keep a chopper up for a while, but it isn't god mode any more.

It's always been in full effect because of the ballistics and netcode. Even directly after the patch were they supposedly fixed kill trading, would still happen multiple times each match. They ruined the synchronization and feel in the process of "fixing" it and introduced 1 frame kills. I'll take more kill trading if that shit is gone. The gameplay was so much better before that patch.

Kill trading never went away despite what their last patch suggested, and that "0 health" remaining bug was always there.

I've had the 0 health bug hit in this game and BF3 (at least) a few times. I seem to experience the same amount of kill trades as I did since the start. That is to say, an average of one per round without fail. I eagerly await the day they finally figure out this "netcode" thing, maybe it'll be ready for Battlefield 12.

Too late now. Not even bothering to go back and try it at this point. Lesson learned, no more BF games for a while unless early reviews are solid on the bug-front.
