Titanfall matches set at 6v6, offers 'best balance'

Titanfall matches will be set at 6v6 maximum, which Respawn's Vince Zampella says gave them the best balance for their AI behaviors in testing.

While other games are upping the ante with player count, Titanfall is a surprisingly intimate affair--especially for a game that's about giant robots. So just how big will the multiplayer matches be? A solid dozen, apparently.

Respawn's Vince Zampella tweeted (via GameSpot) that matches will be 6v6 at maximum. "Turned out to be the best balance with AI for us," he said, mentioning the computer-controlled NPCs that give the feeling of a much larger battle than one would expect from a 6v6 game.

The number isn't terribly surprising, since that's how the game has been running at every public showing so far. Presumably, the player count will apply to both current-gen and next-gen versions of the game.

With the previous record of the guys that are now at respawn I trust that 6v6 is where the game should be. Can't wait, this is the game that has so far, and will continue to, define next-gen for me.

Yay. I'm glad it is going the other direction from battlefield.

i really like battlefield and i am curious about titanfall. not every competitive shooter coming out has to be the same. i would likely skip it if it didn't have many differentiating factors.

Wow that a really low player count, I wasn't expecting 32v32, but 6v6 is tiny. Maybe I'll wait to see how this plays out before jumping in.

Kind of gives it a DOTA2 feel. Small teams means every player is more important, better communication and team organization will make a massive difference. Also easier to team up with only 5 people you really know, instead of 31 idiots you don't.

I was hoping for a 1v1 checkers feel. Nice and intimate like a naked knife fight.

Bots would do well in a 6v6

Ballsy decision, sounds good to me. If you include the option of large player counts, everybody will just play that by default, so if the game plays best in smaller servers then capping it is the right choice.

Well, whatever excitement I had for the game is now pretty much gone.Sorry, but 6vs6 is just too small of a player count for any shooters these days.Crysis 2 and 3's MP were 6vs6,and they felt like it.I was hoping for at the very least 8vs8.

I think that the small player count is a telltale sign that the maps won't be very big in relation to how fast you characters seem to move, and having Titans.

I know this game is considered to be the first real next gen system seller, but this is big blow to that in my opinion, and the game will probably be forgotten once Destiny and The Division are released.

will have to wait and see how it pans out. For those of us that generally suck, its easier to hide amongst a big crowd lol

That feels a bit last gen to me - as a frequent PC game player 6v6 multiplayer on consoles hasn't seemed to change since the Dreamcast. This game doesn't feel like it was made for XO originally.

I got to admit... from all the early videos I though each "person" on the screen was another player. I'm kind of let down that its not a high player count. there will certainly be less "turn the tides of war" moments with only 6on6.

I'll wait and see how the game is meant to be played before passing judgement.

People were expecting CoD/Battlefield with robots and jetpacks and it looks like it's not going to be this at all. I think people are mixing confusion with disappointment.
