Microsoft starts the new year with an update on how its all-in-one entertainment system has sold in 2013. "Over 3 million Xbox One consoles were sold to consumers in 13 countries before the end of 2013," Microsoft marketing VP Yusuf Mehdi said in a statement. According to previous statements from the company, the console sold 1 million on day one, and 2 million within 18 days. By these figures, sales of Microsoft's console are slowing down--but not by much.

"It's been incredible to see Xbox One selling at a record-setting pace for Xbox, and we were honored to see Xbox One become the fastest-selling console in the U.S. during our launch month in November," the statement reads on Xbox.com. (Once again, both Sony and Microsoft have interpreted November sales data with their own spin.) "Since our launch, demand for Xbox One has been strong, selling out throughout the holidays at most retailers worldwide. We are continuing to work hard to deliver additional consoles to retailers as fast as possible."

This will be Microsoft's last update on sales figures before their financial results are posted later in the month. Sony will likely also have an update on PS4 sales during CEO Kaz Hirai's CES keynote tomorrow morning.

MS and Sony remind me of two nerdy, insecure teenage boys trying to impress a hot girl and Apple is the laid back, confident guy that knows he has a big penis and doesn't even try...and he gets the girl anyway.

Apple is the hot hipster guy that all the girls want to be with but ultimately break up when they realize he's totally obsessed with doing his own thing.

Nintendo is the older guy who's friendly and loves kids but doesn't understand technology.

PS4 is the guy who has matured a lot in the last year and is learning to walk like a man instead of the arrogant douchebag that everyone knew him as.

XBO is the spoiled rich kid who throws money at women and expects them to swoon. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Ouya is that kid who came from a family supported by welfare. He clearly shops at the cheapest warehouses or second hand shops for all his stuff. At a personal level, he doesn't quite fit in with any of the social circles. Some of the kids make fun of him others pity him. He has a few friends that hang around him at lunch but they usually take any opportunity to go eat with the popular kids because sometimes Ouya is just awkward and emberassing to be around or worse yet an enraging burden.

What "girl" is Apple getting in this analogy?

The easily manipulated consumer of course. I've got an ipod, ipad, ps1-3, xbox, and 360 so in this analogy I'd be the skanky whore who does anything anywhere for any price.
