Microsoft has announced its next two "Games with Gold" offerings for January. The month will net you the Hong Kong hardboiled open world game Sleeping Dogs and the top-down co-op Lara Croft game, Guardian of Light. We'd say this is probably one of the finest months for Xbox 360's free game service.
Sleeping Dogs will roll out on January 1, followed by Lara Croft on January 16. The games normally cost $19.99 and $14.99 through Xbox Games Store, respectively. Keep in mind, as always, that once you download a Games with Gold title, it's yours to keep whether you continue your Gold subscription or not.

This is an improvement. It's still pretty awful, but hopefully this is the first step to making this a relevant feature. Live is practically theft these days.

The headline made me think we would get 2013's Tomb Raider, but I agree, it is definitely a step in the right direction.
Sony usually gives away games that didn't do so well commercially but were still fun to play. Everyone wins in that situation because gamers get a fun game that they may not have known about previously, and publishers will hopefully be spurred to continue the franchises.
Sleeping Dogs was a great game that simply went unnoticed in the mass market, it's become somewhat of a cult hit thanks to PS+ and Steam. -

You get such wonderful benefits as Netflix and Hulu Plus access! Whadda bahgain! PSN went from a garbage service to wiping the floor with Live. They got left behind and went from the 1st to Worst in little over a year. Hell Nintendo has a better online value now. FUCKING NINTENDO.

This. Trying to explain to my sister in law that she needs a gold account on her kids' xbox to watch something Microsoft doesn't provide just made it sound even worse when said aloud. I'm cancelling my Live subscription because there's just no value to it any longer.
The free games this month are good games, but ancient at this point in the game. -

I had my shit jacked as hell last year by FIFA on Live. If you think it's a great deal, then god bless, you all kinds of wrong though.

Sleeping Dogs is great, and it has some pretty decent DLC. Hopefully, Microsoft will see that giving away better games that are at least from this decade will spur sales of add-on content.
I don't see why they can't give away more recent games like Saint's Row 3 or Halo Reach when those games have newer versions on the market. I can't imagine sales on SR3 or Reach would be hurt at this point, and they could only lead consumers to go out and buy SR4 and Halo 4. -
"it's yours to keep whether you continue your Gold subscription or not." Oh damn. So PSN with the better titles that you lose, or Gold with crappier titles that you keep. Both consoles require the respective service to play online...why would you need to keep a game after you kill your online account? (this reply is in no way implying that sleeping dogs is a crappy title).
