The Destiny universe won't be short on danger, thanks to the threat of no fewer than four races of vicious aliens. The Fallen, Cabal, Vex, and Hive will all be vying for supremacy throughout the entirety of Destiny and the game's art director recently shared some details about each race.

Art director Christopher Barrett discussed some of each race's more unique qualities to Game Informer:

  • The Fallen: Destiny's version of space pirates, nomadically roaming the universe. These pirates have four arms on their bodies and rustic submarine-style mechs and vehicles.

  • The Cabal: A large militaristic empire of rhino-like beasts, wielding huge capital ships and giant tanks. Everything about these guys is big, meaning they'll try and overwhelm opponents through sheer force. "They’re gruff but they’re really ordered as well," said Barrett. "They have a hierarchical military order to them. It’s sort of that back and forth of the beasts that are really gruff and aggressive mixed with that kind of order is kind of a cool thing to play with."

  • The Vex: A mix of man and machine, the Vex are capable of creating warp gates through the universe to call in reinforcements at any time from any time. Their origins are shrouded in mystery and their architecture is confounding, making them alien in just about every conceivable way.

  • The Hive: Barrett refers to the Hive as Destiny's "space zombies," since they've kept themselves alive through unknown magical means. Their designs are inspired by a mixture of fantasy and goth and they can be recognized by their sarcophagus-style ships.

Destiny's battle for supremacy begins on September 9 when the game hits Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, and PS3.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

      That's one serious 2nd quarter. Watch out Q1 2015, Destiny's spring launch isn't f***ing around!

Sure just seems like a generic setting without a whole lot that's terribly intriguing about it. But then, in all fairness, I thought the Halo series was vastly over-rated (from my perspective). I realize tons of console gamers spooned it up but it didn't seem terribly great to me (at least).

I'm far more enthused about Titanfall, instead.

Agree about halo. Also why wouldn't the vex just call in all reinforcements from all times simultaneously and win every battle. Seems like a boring backstory and implementation

I suppose the story won't be the biggest appeal anyway - if they nail the FPS part really well, it won't matter if the story is great or not.

I'm sure the FPS mechanics with be flawless. What I want dialed it is the MMO persistence. That alone will make it more interesting than Titanfall,or any other lobby shooter,to me.Plus,if Titanfall's maps are the typical COD size,I think a lot of excitement will be out the window.

Destiny just look like it has more depth than Titanfall.Same with The Division. This goes into what they were talking about on the show this past weekend about how they believe that there will be more persistent shooters in the future.I tend to agree.

Yeah seems a little generic but the names don't match up, like the fallen should be the zombies right

It'll be something cliche like "they were once good" AND THATS WHY WE CALL THEM THAT. derp.

I remember seeing the first pieces of concept art and I was floored. I actually got pretty excited about Bungie venturing out and doing their own thing. Then I saw more info and it's basically Halo: The MMO.
