Perhaps one of the biggest disappointments of the PS3 generation is the tumultuous development of The Last Guardian, the long-awaited follow-up to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. The game is currently being "re-engineered," with director Fumito Ueda stepping down as full-time Sony employee and going freelance.

"When I worked at SCE, I was on an annual contract, so it was not as much of a change as those around me might think," Ueda said. However, he says that now that he is able to work on "secret" things beyond The Last Guardian.

"In the case of The Last Guardian, my creative work was mostly finished a long time ago," Ueda told Edge in a revealing interview. "But the details of when, where and how it will be completed are beyond my control."

"More than anything I feel terribly sorry that for various reasons I have kept my audience waiting for such a long time," he added.

Read his comment again and remember Sony sent guys from Santa Monica down there to help them and they still had tons of issues.

What comment? And what does that have to do with what I said? I'm just hoping it doesn't get cancelled.... I have no idea what you're talking about...

The project is a financial and technical disaster at this point. I'd be really surprised if it gets released at all. It's costing Sony a shitload of money. What you're reading here is Ueda being nice and basically just talking about how he's excited to be out of there and doing his own thing.

Thanks for the pessimistic speculation. I'm sure you know Sony's viewpoint and the game's funding and progress better than anyone.

considering they've been working on the game for between 7 and 8 years, I'd say he's right on it being a financial disaster.

The more reason for them to finish it and get some return on investment.

I have no idea what to expect from this game now. It's hard to imagine it being as focused and cohesive as Ico and Colossus after 8 years of on and off development.

At this point I just want them to stop talking about it. Stop hitting where it hurts, seriously. I just want to forget about the whole drama, and only hear about it when they have something solid to announce. Like say a fucking release date.

Can someone tell me why people still want to play this game? I just don't understand the appeal. The most gameplay I remember seeing is the boy feeding the creature barrels or something.
