Star Wars helped transform Lego into a viable series of licensed games. Warner Bros has now brought the entire franchise to mobile devices. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga is available now on iOS devices, and lets you get a taste for free.

You can download Lego Star Wars in the App Store for free, and play through Episode 1: The Phantom Menace without paying a red cent. Other episodes are available as in-app purchases for a variety of prices: $2.99 for an individual episode, $4.99 for one of the two trilogies, or $14.99 for the whole package with extra bits of downloadable content like special missions, modes, and stages.

The transition to iOS, naturally, means touch controls for using the Force or fighting in lightsaber duels. It promises 120 characters in all.

Indeed! This is the kind of "free to play" model I'd like to see make a comeback.
