Namco Bandai announced Tales of Zestiria today, a new entry in the long-running RPG franchise set to hit PlayStation 3. It's meant to pay homage to the 20th anniversary of the series, which is around the corner in 2015. It's set for a 2014 release in Japan and confirmed for North America.

To honor the series' roots, it will feature character designs from all four series designers: Mutsumi Inomata, Kosuke Fujishima, Daigo Okumura, and Minoru Iwamoto. The animation company Ufotable will return to handle the animated cutscenes and opening movie as well. The Japanese date is from its official site, but we have no word on when the North American release will come.

"2015 marks the 20th anniversary for the Tales Of franchise in Japan and I would like to thank all the fans who have supported us for the past two decades from the bottom of my heart," said producer Makoto Yoshizumi, in the announcement. "In recent years we have received anticipation for the series not only from Japan, but from overseas fans as well. Because of this I feel that the Tales Of series has more potential than ever before. For this reason we are taking this opportunity to announce Tales of Zestiria as a worldwide title. This title will be going back to the roots of the series and boldly exclaim to the world 'this is Tales Of!'"

We've gotten a brief glimpse of the game via shakycam footage (via VG247). Check it out below:

I'm guessing 2015 for the good ones (FFXV, KH3, Witcher 3), but maybe we'll see some get announced and released in 2014.

Isn't the Witcher 3 coming out in 2014?

Yeah, I know they take time to make, but it would be nice if we at least see some announcement next year and maybe a few screenshots or something.

Yeah, I'm wondering that as well. What might hold us over until brand new PS4 RPG's come is if they port the more recent ones over to PS4. I'd be fine with that.

I would be very surprised to see that happen early on. There's just such a huge difference in 80+ million potential buyers, and 2+ million potential buyers.

I'd wager it'll depend on how well PS4 does in Japan in February.

YES finally another Tales game with localization confirmed out the gate!! Although it probably be out a year later in NA - I doubt they'll release two Tales games in one year (Xillia 2 is in 2014). Which would mean I'll still need my ps3 hooked up in 2015... Bah!

Yeah we've come a long way from fan localization begging a few years ago. Really impressed with Namco Bandai's commitment to get these games outside of Japan. I think they've realized there is a huge Final Fantasy void they can fill in the West.

The amount of money i would pay for a comprehensive library of Tales games on Steam.....

At least i can pick up a ps3 for cheap during the holidays and get the 3 or 4 NA releases.
