Battlefield 4 PS4 patch aims at crashes

As pleasant as Battlefield 4 may be, it's also a mite wonky--enough so that developer DICE paused work on its DLC until the FPS is in better shape. The PC version got a little TLC earlier this week, and now it's the PS4's turn. A new patch today brings plenty of crash fixes, and a few other tweaks.

The PC version got a little TLC earlier this week, and now it's the PS4's turn. A new patch today brings plenty of crash fixes, and a few other tweaks.

The patch is rolling out today, and you may need to restart the game to have it install. Here's the changelog of everything it brings:

  • General stability fixes that should remove a large amount of the client crashes we are currently seeing on the PS4

  • Fixed the audio drop outs that could occur when playing on large maps. Typical map affected was Golmud Railway in Conquest with 64 players. Ambient sound would sometimes cut out, like foley sounds from player running, vehicle engine sounds, vehicle movement sounds, and map ambient sounds

  • Removed the blur effect on soldiers that appeared when Commanders were using EMP attacks

  • Further reduced the probability of getting a corrupt save file by doing miscellaneous changes to the save file system. These include removing the save file saving again when quitting multiplayer

  • Fixed multiple crashes that could occur when bringing up the in-game Battlelog during round transition

  • Fixed a crash that could occur when using the BattleScreen

  • Fixed a random crash related to destroying vehicles

  • Fixed minor destruction issues in the terrain

"We are already working on the next update based on your feedback," DICE added.

the biggest issue i had was when i would mash x to respawn as soon as i died, the screen wouldnt load the map and remain black. if i kept mashing x i would eventually spawn somewhere. i wonder if this is fixed.

haha, that happens on the PC version too. I get rid of it by hitting the ESC key to bring up the options menu, and then cancelling that brings me back to the deploy screen.

Was this game not broken at launch? This game release weeks ago to mostly positive reviews, and now EA is apologizing for how broken it is. So ether it broke after launch, or the reviews were bogus.

I believe the reviews were in a controlled environment so the issues didn't show up? Something like that.

yes. all the reviews were at an EA hosted event, and on special builds and hardware. they were also only given something like 1 hour with the game.

Polygon did the right thing by knocking their score down to a 4.

Hopefully EA realizes they will make more money buy preserving Battlefield's reputation instead of rushing it out the door.

The reviews were in a controlled environment and even then I think it was polygon reported tons of crashing.
