Obsidian's Project Eternity has undergone a name change. The Kickstarter-backed old-school RPG will now be known as Pillars of Eternity. The studio is celebrating the new branding with a fresh new teaser trailer and some announcements regarding a new backer portal.

The details come in a new blog post from the Obsidian team. Backers will be able to manage their pledges through the new portal, allowing them manage their donations linked to their email account and also manage any rewards that they'll receive in return.

Pillars of Eternity is expected to launch in April 2014 for PC, Mac, and Linux. For a taste of what the game will entail, check out the teaser below.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

I like that Torment has gone turn based and this is still real time (as far as I know). Meaning both games hopefully will be good but also different.

i wonder about the run animation actually. does it strike anyone as odd to have the characters running everywhere, from an immersion stand point?

i remember that baldur's and icewind dale had the characters walking everywhere, and honestly, i think i prefer that. maybe have running sometimes when it's appropriate
