Double Fine has announced a new game that combines two distinctly different tastes: the fantastical world of elves, and hacking games. Brandon Dillon's ode to cheating, Hack 'n' Slash, is set to make its formal transition from two-week prototype to fully-fleshed out PC, Mac, and Linux game in the first half of 2014.
Hack 'n' Slash began its life during Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight game jam. The story of a young elf using her computer hacking skills to cheat through a classic action-adventure game resonated with the jam's audience, receiving more votes than any other game pitched during the event.
"I've always loved games with lots of secrets in them," said Dillon, "and when I first discovered a hex editor in an emulator, it dawned on me that I could be a kind of digital treasure hunter--no game could keep even its deepest secrets from me if I adventured long enough in its code and memory."
