Double Fine's Hack 'n' Slash cheats onto PC in 2014

Double Fine is taking Amnesia Fortnight prototype, Hack 'N' Slash, and turning it into a full-blown release, bringing it to PC, Mac, and Linux in 2014.

Double Fine has announced a new game that combines two distinctly different tastes: the fantastical world of elves, and hacking games. Brandon Dillon's ode to cheating, Hack 'n' Slash, is set to make its formal transition from two-week prototype to fully-fleshed out PC, Mac, and Linux game in the first half of 2014.

Hack 'n' Slash began its life during Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight game jam. The story of a young elf using her computer hacking skills to cheat through a classic action-adventure game resonated with the jam's audience, receiving more votes than any other game pitched during the event.

"I've always loved games with lots of secrets in them," said Dillon, "and when I first discovered a hex editor in an emulator, it dawned on me that I could be a kind of digital treasure hunter--no game could keep even its deepest secrets from me if I adventured long enough in its code and memory."

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Awesome news. I really liked the potential this one showed when I played all those prototypes.

The game was funded by Indie Fund, Humble Bundle, Hemisphere Games, make all, AppAbove Games, Adam Saltsman, The Behemoth, Morgan Webb, and Rob Reid as part of a two-game deal that also includes Spacebase DF-9, which released in Early Access Alpha and recouped its investment within two weeks.

So, basically, I need to just allocate some portion of my paycheck to Double Fine for the seemingly unending stream of brilliant funnery title they keep thinking up. Sigh. First Steam and its sales. Now Double Fine with early funding. What's a gamer to do?????? waaaaaaaaa </stupid attempt at humor>

Great news! That prototype felt the most original to me, and I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would.

That's great! I loved the idea of this game in the Amnesia Fortnight but they didn't really have enough time to get too much done. I'd love to see this fleshed out into a full-fledged game!
