Unreal Tournament v425
by Steve Gibson, Aug 01, 2000 11:47am PDTEpic has just released the latest and greatest patch for Unreal Tournament. You can grab the small 6meg patch right here from Shack. You can also have a look at all of the bug fixes included with the new version.
Version 425 is completely network compatible with all previous public releases of UT (versions 400, 402, 405b, 413, and 420). Note that with the new version, when you are connecting to a passworded server, you will see a "Connection Failed" message, and then successfully connect. The client first tries to connect without using a password, and then tries again with the password.

I don't have any problem with beta files, show me where i said I did. I think its hillarious how YOU and the rest of the UT fanboys used to criticize ID for thier Beta patches though. The laugh is that the latest patch doesn't do anything [asusual] it promised to for non-3dfx users [and this means matrox, ATI, and nvidia]. What's even funnier, is I bet the dll is simply the 420 d3ddrv.dll.
And it isn;t just my system, check any general board and there are people with the same issues as me, the engine is NOT up to par, it never has been, and you and I both know that without 3dfx hardware it never will be. Texture management, DirectX 8, paletted textures, and whatever other excause sweeney breathes for you boys to cluelessly quote [still don't think eveilrash knows what paletted textures are] have nothing to do with the reality of its a glide rendereing system with other API's hacked into it. It has nothing to do with the cards. Sweeeney can't get openGl to work good either as i recall, and we all know that openGL and non-3dfx cards have NO problems whatsoever ala Q, Q2, Q3, SOF, Sin, KingPin, and Half-life. So wothout furter ado, UT still isn't a good benchmark for anything because its 3dfx biased. Deal with it, it isn't ever going to change.

come on guys!, 'decal' type textures still screwing up on a lot of TNTs and geforces!
That's why q3a will always be the better engine, cause it works! and it's almost infinately scalable with faster cards.

I like the UT demo FAR more, didn't like the full. But since 2 good friends of mine is in the developmentteam of the Tactical Ops [SWAT] mod, i tend to test it every now and then.
Still though, i like Counterstrike more than any commercial FPS i ever played. That's including Quake 1 [wich owned my ass].
