Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse HD was released on consoles earlier this year, but an iOS version has surprisingly popped up in the App Store today. The game is being offered for $9.99 and is optimized for iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and later models.

This version of Castle of Illusion is a faithful HD update to the 1990 Sega Genesis classic and will utilize virtual joysticks for this iOS iteration. For an idea of the mouse antics you can expect, watch the trailer below:

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

$10 for a game isn't bad... but the jumping puzzles (in the original) were fucking TOUGH with a regular controller. don't think i can do it with a v-pad. and i don't even hate v-pads like a lot of people.

yeah that was straight up throw-the-fucking-controller-against-the-wall brutality. game was maddening, but you played it and liked it because that's what you fucking had!

I completed it as a kid multiple times i don't remember it being that hard (no i wasn't playing practice mode). The library was probably the most difficult level.

I found quack shot MUCH harder or any other Disney themed game at the time was way more difficult (lion king = death incarnate).

Yeah, I agree. Whenever mention of this game comes up people talk about how frustrating it was but I never had that experience once. I played it because I liked the whimsical Disney animation style, the game itself was really easy though.

The remake is significantly easier. I played it on PC with a 360 gamepad (and really liked it).

I still dunno about virtual controls though. Some of the boss fights might be unplayably difficult.
