Rumor: Nintendo experimenting with Android-based tablet

Is Nintendo working on an Android-tablet?

Is Nintendo working on an Android-tablet? A series of supposed tweets from Nintendo of America software engineer Nando Monterazo suggests so.

"Experimenting with a tablet of Nintendo, the system is based on Android, fully modified," he said on Twitter yesterday. According to Monterazo, the tablet would be designed for educational games for children that could feature Nintendo characters.

Nintendo Everything has documented the tweets, which are no longer accessible on the site. Monterazo says that the tablet is "primarily focused for schools," and will not feature any NES, SNES, or Game Boy games. "The tablet will not have these games, educational games only!"

While the notion of a Nintendo-developed Android system would be a little surprising, Nintendo of America has been known to license its characters for educational software. In fact, Mario taught me typing.
