Shadowrun Returns Berlin DLC becomes Shadowrun: Dragonfall

Shadowrun Returns' Berlin DLC has morphed into a full-fledged expansion called Shadowrun: Dragonfall, which is set to arrive in January.

HareBrained Schemes' Kickstarter success, Shadowrun Returns, was originally slated to receive a round of DLC back in October, but was delayed to become a full-length campaign. The studio has now pulled the curtain back on the beefed-up Berlin expansion, calling it Shadowrun: Dragonfall.

Shadowrun: Dragonfall ventures further into the magic-infused world of 2054, where the threat of a long-forgotten event from the past is poised to threaten Berlin. Berlin promises to feature new hi-res locales, along with a new cast of characters, new weapons, cyberware, and magical enemies.

Dragonfall will add a new "save anywhere" feature, which will retroactively be added to the original Shadowrun Returns "Dead Man's Switch" campaign. It will also feature new changes to the game editor, including all of the expansion's new assets and an updated scripting system that allows for additional options for custom conversations.

Shadowrun: Dragonfall will be available as a standalone expansion for $14.99 or can be purchased with the original Shadowrun Returns game for $24.99. Dragonfall will arrive on PC, Mac, and Linux in January, with iPad and Android tablet versions coming shortly thereafter.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Wait, I thought those that helped get it funded would get it free. We have to pay as well? Cause my guess is that they focused on making it better cause the original product sucked hairy money balls and was a disgrace to Shadowrun property.

We do get it free. Also, pretty much everything you just said is wrong.

This post is wrong in so many ways.... I don't even know where to start.

Frist of all, the game is excellent and it is completely respectful of the original property and also created by one of the original creators of Shadowrun. It is also pretty universally respected and supported by Shadowrun fans as far as I've seen (considering it's the best thing to happen to the property since the SNES and Genesis games).

Secondly, if you supported this game on Kickstarter or backed it on their site after the campaign closed, then you get this expansion for free. They have said that from the beginning, the have been saying all along in updates and they are saying it now. You will get the same amount of keys for this version as you did for the original (if you backed it) and they are even working hard to make completely DRM-free versions of the game available because some contractual obligations with the first campaign they couldn't get around.

I really hope they add walk animations. I have no idea why it bothered me, but I just couldn't handle the "run everywhere" thing.

I'd settle for an option to exit combat mode when there's nobody around.

While the setting is nice, deadman's switch's gameplay was so shallow andI felt like I barely did anything but waste my time.

That, sir, is because you took no interest in the editor! The engine is awesome, and I love that they kept it up! I'm a huge Shadowrun fan, and wish I would've heard of it earlier because (price be damned) I'd be proud to say that I helped make this idea a real product. I might not get the xpac for free, but dammit TAKE MY MONEY!
