Command & Conquer to resume 'under a new studio'

EA says that those who bought the C&C Ultimate Collection will still have their early beta access honored "once production of this title resumes under a new studio."

The Command & Conquer game is apparently down but not out. Though EA recently ceased production and shut down the development studio in the process, a recent statement implies that it could be making a comeback.

"For those of you who bought The C&C Ultimate Collection, your early access to the beta will be honored once production of this title resumes under a new studio," says an EA Support post (via IGN).

That certainly seems to imply that EA plans to continue development of the free-to-play Command & Conquer game, albeit with a new team and likely a new direction. When the game was canceled, the team bluntly stated, "We are not making the game you want to play." Even then, though, they did state that production was being halted on "this version," and another version appears to be forthcoming.

You fucked it up by going f2p, please do it right.

"When the game was canceled, the team bluntly stated..."

No one on the team wrote or approved that message despite how it was signed.

Aside from that if EA does pick up the franchise again, I wish whatever team tackles it the best of luck. I hope they get the chance to make the game the fans wants.

"We are not making the game you want to play."

If it was a change in the direction the game was going, couldn't the old studio have handled that? Why do you need a new studio to change direction? I would think that if you really wanted to change direction, get it the fuck away from EA.

They were owned by EA, so there was no escape. Also, they were in LA; I don't know if they were in "the EA LA building", but might as well have been, since EA LA was closed down after C&C4, after having probably suffered a lot of turnover after Red Alert 3 (there's probably a huge book to be written about EA LA in about 5 years or so).

If you look at EA in LA now, Danger Close got shut down and replaced with "EA DICE LA" making the new Star Wars: Battlefront game, and Victory got shut down.

I'd love to see them abandon the fucking F2P crap and make a real campaign.
