War Thunder to be first PlayStation 4 game with keyboard/mouse controls

War Thunder from Gaijin Games will be the first PlayStation 4 game to allow use of keyboard and mouse controls.

The flight and tank combat game War Thunder has the unique distinction of being the sole PlayStation 4 game (so far) to let you use keyboard and mouse controls, or a flight stick if you'd like. Originally on PC, and sporting five million players on that platform alone, the free-to-play game already used KB/M on PC and so it was a natural fit--but it wasn't a plug-and-play solution.

Supporting alternate control methods takes some extra effort on behalf of developers, told Gaijin president Anton Yudintsev Kotaku. The game's also taking advantage of some other less-used PS4 features. It's cross-platform, for one, letting PS4 players take on PC players and vice-versa. The PlayStation Eye can even be used for head-tracking.

While War Thunder is a PS4 launch game in Europe, it won't be available in the US at Friday's launch, instead coming by the end of the year. If you need something to show off the bells and whistles of some otherwise underused PS4 functionality, it seems like a good fit.
