XBox Dev Kits Shipping

Microsoft has just announced that they are now shipping the XBox development kits out to game developers around the world. What does that mean? We will probably (hopefully) get some reactions from actual game developers instead of MS PR hype sometime in the fairly near future if this thing is really worth while.

Today's PC-based XDK system is designed to provide developers with maximum freedom to create. It includes early graphics hardware, a large hard drive, a beta version of DirectX 8, technical documentation, and off-the shelf game pads that simulate Xbox functionality.
7:30 update: Here is a story over at Gamecenter with a few more details on XBox plans.

  • i have to say that i am a console fan. and i would like to see what MS has planned for the X-Box. i mean it has potential right now, we will have to see what they do with it and what games they will have. but personally i am a Nintendo fan. i was raised on Nintendo. they have been pretty tight-lipped about their new system, but only because i think they are planning on out-doing everyone in the console wars for this generation. plus the 500 million from MS seems like a ALOT of money. i dont know how much a huge advertising campign like that would cost, but for 500 million bucks, seems like we are going to be forced-feed X-Box ads. well anyway, we will see what happens in a few months, and let the new systems go after each others throats.
