Sixth World of Warcraft expansion in development

Blizzard may only have just announced its fifth expansion for World of Warcraft, Warlords of Draenor, but number six is already in the works. As people continue to leave (the MMORPG's now down to a still-impressive 7.7 million subscribers), Blizzard's hoping that releasing expansions more quickly will keep players interested.

"It's going to be on us and our development team to continually look at ways to evolve the game and keep it relevant," Blizzard president Mike Morhaime told Polygon, "and look for new ways of maintaining engagement within the game."

New expansions are one great way to do that, but may be taking too long to arrive. "We recognize that we need to release them on a faster cadence than we have in the past," Morhaime added.

"We've already started working on the expansion after this one. We've never done that in the past. We've been doing one expansion at a time, sort of a very linear content creation model, and we've looked at ways that we can parallelize that. So that while we're working on this expansion we're looking at the new one."

Announced over the weekend at BlizzCon, Warlords of Draenor uses a little time travel to send Orcs of old against the present-day Alliance and Horde. As well as adding the whole new world of Draenor, it'll boost the level cap to 100 and introduce player-built garrisons.

If this Coming Expansion would have been a few years ago, I might be still playing. It looks good, but I don't think I'll be getting back into WOW.

Well, the expansions wouldn't take so long if they didn't release so much content in the mean time.
I'm ok with the frequent FREE content they add, but the full expansions are nice too.
