Earlier this year, Gearbox and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco announced the development of a short Borderlands animated film. The project and semester are drawing to a close, and the shorts (now plural) will be available in December to fulfill the end-of-year deadline.

The project ballooned past its original scope and both the Academy and Gearbox brass decided to make three short films instead of one. They're collectively titled 'Tales from the HQ.' The announcement highlights just one short, 'Bride of Frankentrap,' which features Claptrap facing the existential crisis of being the lone robot of his kind left. It was conceived and storyboarded by student Leslie Harwood, and you can check out her animatic below.

The work has apparently paid off already for at least one student. 2K Games brought two students aboard as summer interns, and one of them now has a full-time job at the company.
