Scanning codes into Xbox One is ridiculously fast

One of the benefits of having Kinect included with every Xbox One is how simple redeeming codes will be. Instead of having to input a lengthy alphanumeric code through the controller, you can simply tell Xbox to scan a code. Then, you simply point the QR code at the camera and it will redeem. Major Nelson shows off how fast the process is in a very compelling Vine video.

That's awesome. Guiding cursors back and forth along QWERTY keyboard layouts is something I'd love to leave behind. I'd love to see Sony offer a similar boon through the Eye camera.

You've been able to use a USB keyboard to type keycodes and messages on XBL for as long as I can remember. It was a bit inconvenient, but I bought the keypad attachment and never looked back.

i love when there are 4 text fields and when you copy/paste it automatically parses the key!

The shift keys in BL2 do this. It's a nice touch, means you can just open the steam overlay, find a code and copy + paste it into the game with no hassle.

QR codes are used everywhere. We even use them in the hospital now as they scan better than barcodes.

That is because QR codes have error correcting encoding built in, bar codes only have error detection capability.

They can also be scanned in any orientation, so items don't need to be aligned to have the code read.

I used them quite bit back before chrome synced between mobile and desktop. I would take some text or a URL or whatever and paste it into a page that would generate a QR code of it then scan it with my phone to save tons of typing.

They've been used in manufacturing to track parts for ages, they were originally designed by a Toyota subsidiary for just that purpose.

Nice, but it still doesn't seem worth allocating 10% of the cpu to it.
