Xbox Live Fitness will allow a la carte purchases for Free members

Xbox Fitness is an online service planned for this holiday on Xbox One that enhances workout videos with Kinect support. The pre-recorded videos from P90X, Insanity, and Jillian Michaels will be familiar to fitness buffs, but Kinect can now offer feedback to players, offering suggestions on how to better follow along with the routine. It's the closest thing you can get to having Shaun T yelling at you in your living room.

Until December 2014, Xbox Live Gold members will get Fitness subscription features for free. Like Netflix, Xbox Fitness has a catalog of streaming videos that are part of the membership. However, Xbox Live Free members will also be able to use Xbox Fitness.

While Gold members will have access to a rather large collection of Fitness videos, Free members will be able to buy videos from the collection a la carte. Priced similarly to their non-interactive DVD counterparts, it's a sensible way of accessing the Fitness content without paying for an ongoing membership.

With Xbox Fitness membership beyond the one-year trial not yet priced, this may be a good option even for Gold members that only need one or two videos to workout with.

I did not know this Fitness thing was a thing at all. That's pretty cool.

It's rather no-frills, but it's totally a sensible and worthwhile addition to the typical fitness videos. Free access with Gold for a year is also a nice perk.

That's a nice benefit to offer.
