Killzone: Shadow Fall has no multiplayer vehicles at launch, co-op, or split-screen

A Q&A about Killzone: Shadow Fall has revealed that it has no co-op campaign or split-screen support, and vehicles won't be available in multiplayer at launch.

Killzone Shadow Fall is a marquee PlayStation 4 launch title, ticking the "first-person shooter" box that comes with a new console. A new Q&A with game director Steven Ter Heide sets expectations accordingly, outlining just what the game will and won't do.

Multiplayer will be running on dedicated servers. The touch pad will be used to bring up menus in multiplayer, and the dropdown melee attack we've seen in the trailers will be a kill option against human opponents too.

Unfortunately, the "won't" list is a bit more substantial. The Q&A reveals that it won't have a co-op mode, though Guerrilla plans to release a wave-based co-op mode post-launch. The game also won't sport split-screen support, and the studio has no plans to have connectivity or bonuses with the Vita game Killzone: Mercenary.

Finally, at launch at least, multiplayer won't have any vehicles available. "We wanted to ensure that player-created, custom Warzones work on all multiplayer maps," Ter Heide said, "and the inclusion of vehicles would have introduced too many new variables and exceptions to guarantee this." At the very least, DLC maps will be released for free.

No split-screen is not surprising really. The folks at Guerrilla seem committed to making the game look as good as possible and a split-screen mode probably would have resulted in a serious drop in frame-rate or detail (and multiplayer is said to run at 60fps).

Jesus, no split screen, no co-op at launch. Why not just delay the game and release it when it's finished? I know the Sony Pony's will say this is fine, but imagine if COD or Battlefield came out and didn't allow a crucial part of the game, everyone would be all over it.

How are split-screen or co-op "crucial" parts of the game? Most MP is played online, and the co-op (mentioned here) is just another stupid horde mode.

I mean, Killzone isn't exactly a property I care about, but this hardly seems important.

Oh good, I'm glad this whole "release a game in pieces" trend is becoming a thing.

"release a game in pieces" <> Pay for a game in pieces unfortunately. (I agree with your sarcasm - They should just bring back Shareware/1 Act Demos)
