Zelda and Luigi themed 3DS XLs announced for Europe

Nintendo announced two special edition 3DS XLs in Europe today, one themed after Luigi and one after Zelda with an included download code for A Link Between Worlds.

Autumn is here, and that means Nintendo is taking a cue from mother nature again and changing its own colors. The company has announced two new 3DS XL special editions in Europe, one of which ties in with the upcoming Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Both are scheduled to hit in November, but North American plans haven't been announced. The Zelda-themed 3DS sports a two-tone gold and black color scheme, with the dual Triforce logo on each side. It will also include a download code for A Link Between Worlds, and is scheduled to hit Europe on November 22--the same day as the game launches. A Luigi-themed special edition is coming sooner, on November 1, but doesn't include a game download. This announcement only covers Europe for now, but it seems likely that North America will get at least one of them. Nintendo tends to release special edition bundles of their handhelds around Black Friday in the states, and the November 22 release date would put the Zelda bundle in a prime location at that spot. In fact, almost this exact scenario happened two years ago, when Nintendo announced a Zelda-themed 3DS for Europe far in advance, and then later sprung it on us just before it was set to hit stores. Shacknews has contacted Nintendo and will update as more information becomes available.

I don't mind digital distribution on my PC one bit, but when it comes to my consoles I still prefer hard copies. Bad Nintendo.. Bad.

I feel the same way, and it's because digital purchases on consoles don't carry over the way they do on PC. I know, for example, that I can log into Steam on any PC and play any games in my library. On the PS4, though, my PS3 purchases won't mean a thing.

I love Nintendo, but they're the worst with digital purchases. I hesitate to purchase games through the eShop because I know I'll have to jump through so many hoops to move my games to a new system should my handheld (or Wii U) bite the dust.

yeah I can already see the nightmare 5-10 years down the road when my 360 will again bite the dust and needs replacement. I wonder when the magical day comes and say MS says they pull the plug on digital support for legacy systems.

I think I got one of the last bundles from Nintendo that had a physical game, the Ocarina of Time 3DS bundle. It looks like download codes from here on out.

Seriously. Between this and the awesome music box, Nintendo EU knows how to please their fans.

Don't you worry, it'll come to you Americans as well.

(But I'm still glad we got a 3DS XL Fire Emblem rather than the "classic" 3DS Fire Emblem you got!)

The gold back with the triforce looks cool. But the gold on the inside is too much. If it were all black inside I'd be sold.

That's why I like my OoT edition 3DS from a couple years ago: black with gold trim and lettering. Kinda reminiscent of a Pioneer stereo from 1983.

I will have to see it in real life, but I think it's got something nice going on about it. I don't think I want to buy a 3DS personally, but I do appreciate these designs.

I agree that the gold interior is the weakest part, but the fact that for once they didn't ignore the BOTTOM of the device when thinking about the paint design is pretty fantastic. It makes the stupid warning type shit on the bottom blend a lot better with the device.

On the "WTF Europe only" stuff: historically, colour options spread to other countries soon. Hoping that Zelda version shows up in North America, at least.

I already have an original 3DS, is the difference between that and the XL worth upgrading for? Haven't really played it much but I'm planning on picking up Link Between Worlds and since I have a Zelda-styled DS I'm a bit tempted by this one. :o
