Apple Troubles
by Steve Gibson, Jul 28, 2000 1:18pm PDTNot to pee in Apple's soup but lately it looks like these guys have been taking more steps backwards than forward. After the whole debacle of the dual CPU thing being just about useless with MacOS in most cases, now Apple is getting sued for cube design they just launched. The funny part is Apple has been known for being very diligent about filing lawsuits of their own when other hardware vendors who infringe on their 'designs'.
Cobalt Networks Inc., manufacturer of the Qube server appliance, alleged on Friday that Apple had infringed its trademarks. Cobalt's Qube, which was launched in May 1998, is a deep blue, 7-inch-square server for hosting Web applications. Then we've got Mike Wilson just earlier saying how Macs have basically dropped support for the gaming publishers in his opinion... Things are not looking good for mac gaming.

Oh yeah, why would anyone copy Mac's Design? Thats like Burger King trying to make their new Burger look like a piece of dog poo.
OH YES! I would love to have my computer clutter up my desk by me being able to see inside of it, all the circuits, and cheap ass hardware.
I WANT A PURPLE COMPUTER! Hell no. You know what? Its those damn guys from the 60's running Mac. Those stupid guys trying to be different, make an ugly gay computer. Oh yeah, heh their slogan is "Think Different."
Coming from a long history of computer development, and computer crap, I can say I'm in a position to say: MAC, YOU SUCK, YOU BIG PIECE OF NASTY SHIT!
sCary, why do you have a G4? That's sad.

Besides, these things have nothing similar with each other than happening to be cubical in shape. And again, NeXT did this long before these Qube morons did. Apple should be suing Qube, not the other way around. I would love to see this get turned around, hee hee.
And, the second processor is not useless Steve. MacOS is useless. The hardware is good. People are going to run the OSX beta on these machines shortly (I've seen it and OSX is incredibly sexy... it's like a UNIX wet dream... a nice revamp of the NEXTSTEP OS), and they're going to have a nice box to upgrade their OS into in the spring if they can't access the beta.
So, MacOS == broken, not second processor == useless.

The day I can do that with a Mac, I might consider one...
I see these guys with black slick combed hair, thick black framed glasses, all with black slacks, a white button-up shirt, and black ties.
THE 60's!!!!
Why did I just post this? What a waste. I just took up about 500k on Steve's machine. Sorry Steve. Oh here steve. Just for you, ;) here's an extra 5 bytes: 12345

And my FreeBSD doesn't have a faggy gum-drop interface...
The only thing bad about herr Jobs efforts to turn around Apple is that I had hoped that I wouldn't have to hear from machead zealots like Olly anymore.
Better go stick your head back in the reality distortion field before your brain realizes the horror of the forced atrophy from having used a mac and crawls out your ass to strangle you.

*sucks.
sorry.
The only thing good ever made by apple was the g4 powerbook. Those things 0wn.
But its not like I wanna game on my laptop or anything, I just wanna type, maybe watch a few DVD's, and p0stor on the shack.
I can game @home.
apologies to anyone who got ridiculed for simply questioning if i had enough background to responsibly make statements like that. perfectly reasonable to question me.
ill ignore the personal attacks, we'll call it even.
Technically (and everyone who has any insight into the workings of modern a OS knows this) MacOS is a pile of steaming crap. Most of the technology that goes on behind the scenes on MacOS is similar to what we saw from Microsoft during the Windows3x debacle.
Multitasking, memory sharing, and lack of memory protection, as well as garbage cleanup are all major problems going on behind the scenes of MacOS. It's no wonder Apple doesn't want all the game software on their machine, Games are what cause the most problems on wintel machines, what would happen if they were on Macs? Well guess what, we don't have to imagine because we know already. Many game developers have spoken out about how dreadful coding for the MacOS is, are we to believe they are lying?
Now of course we have OSX on the horizon, and perhaps that will be what vindicates the Mac. I must admit, it looks pretty good from what I have seen, so maybe things will change. Even then though, we still have to deal with the lack of performance coupled with a sky-high price, and quite frankly, I haven't seen anything from Apple that would lead me to believe they deserve it.
Ah well, marketing has gotten them through all of their other problems, it will get them through this one.
*laff*

(1) Apple has been lawsuit happy, and sued e-machines (I think it was, and appropriately) over copying their design. It is ironic to see the tables turned, though in my opinion the cube is not a clone of Qube. It's probably more Qube using this as a marketing ploy to get them noticed. I'd never heard of them before, now a picture of their machine is going to be in all kinds of news sites because of the suit.
(2) Steve reworked his wording when it could have been misconstrued. It's an entirely valid criticism that MacOS isn't supporting that second processor and that's the only choice available right now.
(3) Mike Wilson's initial post stated very clearly "Apple is abandoning gamers." Wilson changed his tune in a later post, so Steve was entirely in the right to take the first as he did because that was definitely how it was meant, and if you didn't see the second one, of course you'd come to that conclusion.
(4) Steve can post whatever he wants on his site. If he wants to say that Apple blows, he's entitled to that opinion. I don't see anything saying that in here though. It's more of a "haha apple, turnabout is fair play" then a warning which is appropriate given Mike Wilson's comments. I don't even see any claim in here that Mike Wilson said the platform blows. Other sites have however posted about the correction in Wilson's comments. I made the same mistake myself assuming that his first article said what he says he thinks we should think it means (heh).
(5) I don't see any mention in here about CPUs and lack of fast chips. I don't know how that worked into your rant, especially one that asks someone else to "READ THINGS." There were mentions in the cited article, and fair ones that state that MHz comparisons are apples and oranges. To take Steve to task for another man's article is retarded though.
