Watch Dogs requires install on Xbox 360 (just like GTA5)

Just like Grand Theft Auto V, Watch Dogs on Xbox 360 will come with separate 'Install' and 'Play' discs, though Ubisoft isn't ready to tell just how much space the game will require.

Just like Grand Theft Auto 5, Xbox 360 owners will have to make sure they have some free hard drive space. Ubisoft's take on Chicago in Watch Dogs will also come on two discs on Microsoft's console--and will require the same installation as Rockstar's game.

Watch Dogs creative director Jonathan Morlin told VideoGamer.com that the process would be "the same thing as GTA." If this is the case, you likely won't want to install this game's 'Play' disc, either.

Because the game will require at least 8GB of free space, Xbox 360 Arcade owners will need to pick up a hard drive or USB flash drive. It will need to be at least USB 2.0, keep in mind.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the PS3 version of GTA 5 also requires a install?

So - both Xbox 360 and PS3 requires an install (slightly bigger install for PS3) and if Watch Dogs is the same PS3 will also require an install.

GTAV most certainly required an install on my PS3 (which took about 10min).

Yes, but the PS3 version doesn't have separate install and play discs. That's the (very small) difference.

It's significant because for a long time, MS wouldn't let games have an install that was required, so many 360 owners may not be aware of this with new titles.

I have an original xbox and GTA took up about 8G of space. that leaves me no room for other installs. I thought the point of consoles was that you just put in the disk and play.

The evolution of open world games has necessitated the need for faster random access to data blocks to stream the world. No console can keep the entire world loaded in ram at once - probably not even most pc's as the worlds keep growing in size and complexity. So, the random access speed of a hard drive, or soon SSD to be sure, is necessary.

Since this is a requirement of a Next Gen open world game, maybe, just maybe this means that there's an XBox One version of GTA 5.
