Hearthstone progress to be completely wiped, making way for major update

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is about to receive a major update, which will balance classes, refine crafting, and change gold allocation. Unfortunately, this means your progress is about to get wiped.

The beta for Blizzard's Hearthstone is on the verge of receiving a major update. Much of the game's UI and rewards system will get a major overhaul and, because of that, all player progress is set to get completely wiped. So make peace with your all-powerful deck now, because you won't get to keep it for much longer.

"If you are participating in the Hearthstone closed beta test, your progress will be reset," reads a statement on the Hearthstone blog. "This includes your gold, experience and class levels gained through play, arcane dust quantities, cards unlocked through progression, and your medal ranking in Ranked Play mode. When you load up the game afterwards, it will be as if you were starting in Hearthstone as a new player." The post adds that all money spent in-game will be fully reimbursed as gold. Blizzard adds that this is expected to be the last of the wipes.

A separate post goes into more detail about the update, which Blizzard says is based on user feedback. Daily quests and crafting will be refined to be more user-friendly. Classes will also be balanced, with Rogues getting their spells adjusted, while Warriors and Priests get some newer, stronger cards.

Look for gold allocation to receive a major change, as well. "The rate that you acquire gold has been one of the other most-commented on topics on our forums. This patch will improve the gold output of Play mode, changing the gold generation rate from 5 gold per five wins to 10 gold per three wins. We will be monitoring this update as we progress further into closed beta and will continue to make changes as needed."

But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Hunter ability is crap, same with Warrior. They give you no opportunity to increase board control.

At least the warrior ability has some synergy with certain cards like shield slam.

It takes so long to build worthwhile synergy that I never see shield slam played.

Yeah I'm not saying its great but unlike the hunter ability it at least has some card interaction.

What? Warriors getting the shaft in a Blizzard game?

Hunter is trash, I can count the number of times I've lost to them on one hand

If you let one get going with a buzzard and/or a hyena, you can quickly lose control, but otherwise it's easy enough to control.

Please to send more invite waves. I can't remember a beta since D3 I've wanted to play so much.

Supposedly when this patch hits they are also going to be switching to new hardware and will then be able to open the floodgates.

Looks like another big, steaming, pay to win turd from Blizzard.

Those gold tweaks go towards fixing that. Great news there.

Yup, it's a great game, simplified in just the right way to make it approachable and play quick.

Cool, interested to see what the exact changes are. I'm not sure that gold change will make a huge difference. It sucked the way it was but 10g for 3 wins still kinda sucks compared to the quests.

At the very least it will give more incentive for people to play. 30 wins under the current system gets you 30 gold. The same number of wins in the upcoming system gets you 100 gold. I'll totally take that in addition to completing the challenges.

I wish I burned through my gold this weekend, I have enough for four Arenas

Yeah, this gold change is very nice. If they keep Arena entry at 150 gold, this means you can quite easily get enough gold for at least 1 arena entry per day with just doing the 3 wins for 10 gold + Daily quests. I would be completely content with that.
