Ghost Recon Online is getting a boost from sister franchise Splinter Cell, with new weapons and items, as well as a brand new map.

Someone at Ubisoft spilled some Splinter Cell into their Ghost Recon. The publisher has announced the weapons and gear used by Splinter Cell frontman Sam Fisher can now be used to customize characters in free-to-play shooter Ghost Recon Online.

In addition to tossing in six weapons, three armors, and avatars from Ghost Recon's sister franchise, IGN also details a new map called Khyber Stronghold, a fortress in Pakistan that Ubisoft describes as "the most ambitious map we've developed to date." If you choose to run through this map, beware of assassins.

The Splinter Cell update is available now and you can check out a new trailer below.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
