Square Enix confirmed in June that it was working on a free-to-play game set in the Legacy of Kain universe, but didn't have much to say about it. Today the publisher finally revealed Nosgoth as a competitive PC multiplayer game of humans vs. vampires.

Rumblings and fears had mooted that Nosgoth might be yet another unfortunate Dota clone but nope, it's just straight class-based multiplayer murder. The human team gets ranged weapons and clever tech, while vampires can climb walls and leap around to tear humans apart. Each match will include a turn at each side. Signups for closed testing are open now (via Eurogamer).

While it's yet unclear how exactly it'll be monetised, the FAQ insists that "Nosgoth is NOT 'Pay-2-Win' - One of our key goals has been to create a fair experience that doesn't penalise players who don't spend money in the game."

Developer Psyonix hasn't made many games of its own, but has contributed to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Bulletstorm, Mass Effect 3, and fair few other notable names.
