VVVVVV and Super Hexagon creator Terry Cavanagh has released a new freeware title called Naya's Quest. Players control the title character and move her across an isometric plane, searching for the edge of the world. It looks like a straightforward endeavor, until your perspective just goes all topsy-turvy.

Stages are designed to look like a flat plane on the surface, but you'll quickly realize that some tiles are simply nonexistent and wind up taking you to new areas. You eventually run into a scanner that helps you determine the true path, but the game rapidly becomes more difficult in its complex level design.

If you want to give it a shot, play it here for free. You can also get the soundtrack here.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Thought I'd give it a go. It definitely messes with your head. It's quite addictive, too. I didn't expect there to be a loose story along with it, but i'm digging that, too. As well as the soundtrack.

It looks nice, but isometric anything really throws off my coordination. That's most of why I don't like WarCraft / StarCraft / Diablo / DOTA, or anything in an isometric format.

Are you OK with top down, like Hotline Miami?

Probably, but I haven't played many games like that. I should probably try out Hotline Miami, but I heard that game was an insanely hard time sink.

It's hard, but I would not call it a time sink.

It's hard at times but you rarely lose much progress and the game is short anyway. Not sure if it's your thing but I loved it.
