Soulcalibur 2 HD Online for Wii U 'depends on demand'

Soulcalibur 2 is much-beloved by series fans. So much so, in fact, that Namco Bandai is working on an HD re-release of the title. We asked Soulcalibur producer Masaaki Hoshino about why he thought this particular entry has such a devoted following. "That was the first time we did multiplatform," he told us, pointing out that the franchise was first introduced to many players with that release.

When Soulcalibur 2 originally released, it featured platform-specific characters. For the HD re-release, two of those formerly-exclusive characters are included in both Xbox and PlayStation versions of the game. However, Nintendo's HD console isn't being graced with a release--denying fans the chance to play as Link on Wii U.

Hoshino seemed genuinely puzzled by our mentioning of a possible Wii U version, asking all the journalists in the room if they owned Nintendo's console. (We all raised our hands.) To that, he responded: "it's not impossible for a Wii U version, it depends on the demand for it."

He told fans that if they truly want a Wii U release of Soulcalibur 2 HD, that they should "spam Twitter and Facebook." So, Nintendo fans that want to take action: here you go.
