Silent Hunter Online's open beta hits the high seas

Silent Hunter Online, Ubisoft's latest browser-based free-to-play, game puts players in control of submarines, giving you a chance to sink battleships everywhere.

Ubisoft is really getting behind Flash-based browser games. Following announcements for Anno Online and Tom Clancy's EndWar Online, the publisher is teaming up with developer Blue Byte for their next free-to-play browser game--this one involving submarines.

Silent Hunter Online dives into the high seas during WWII, as submarines engage in tactical combat during the Battle of the Atlantic. Players will manage flotillas of authentic WWII-era submarines and try to wipe out enemy convoys in a real-time strategy setting. They can also join up with friends for cooperative, server-wide missions.

Silent Hunter will be built on advanced Flash 11 technology. This will allow for dynamic weather effects, including walls of fog, strong swell, rain showers, and sunsets.

Players can sign up for the open beta on the game's website.
