The Chronicles of Riddick franchise resulted in not one, but two terrific video games. A third Riddick movie just hit theaters, which begs the question: is another video game in the works?

According to star and producer Vin Diesel, the answer is yes.

"My die-hard gamers want Taigon to deliver the third chapter in the Riddick game," Riddick said in an interview with ScreenCrush (via CVG). "And we just over the past couple of months, just this year, reassembled that team from Starbreeze that brought Escape From Butcher Bay to create the third game." According to IGN, the game will be "more of a MMO."

While the prospect of a new Riddick game should get fans rightfully excited, there is reason to pause. Diesel is no stranger to over-promising and under-delivering. Diesel has been dreaming up an MMO for years now--with nothing to show for it yet.

given the type of media he's talking to "more of an MMO" could mean a million different things

some more... game minded media, should give him an opportunity to clarify himself

Aren't most of the Escape From Butcher Bay developers at Machine Games working on Wolfenstein: The New Order?

Neither were terrific, and dark athena was the poorer of the two.

Butcher Bay was a great game back when it was released. It doesn't hold up so well these days, but when it came out I remember playing it quite a bit. It also got great reception.

Yeah, it definitely was a noteworthy game back then for several things (tech, characters, gameplay freedom). I had my qualms about some of the gameplay, but they could be overlooked in 2004.

I feel like Starbreeze hasn't stepped up their game enough if The Darkness and recently Syndicate is any indication of their capabilities.

Pretty sure most of the core team that worked on Butcher Bay broke away from Starbreeze to form MachineGames a while back.

it also proved that a game based on a movie didn't necessarily have to suck!

Wh0a, the first thing I would do in that game would be to name myself Roddick to differentiate myself from the other dudes. Then I would grind for XP for 4000 hours and do raids and stuff.
