The Stanley Parable, the standalone version of the popular Half-Life 2 mod, is nearing completion. Creator Davey Wreden says it's now slated for October, though it still lacks an exact date. Wreden has teased that players of the original mod might be surprised to learn they only got "half the story."

"I'm finally at a point where I can tell you with full confidence that the Stanley Parable will be released in October 2013," Wreden wrote on the official site (via PC Gamer). "We are mere weeks away! Still a lot to do, but man, we're almost there. Almost there. Almost there. Almost there."

The mod started a standalone project after a successful Greenlight campaign, but you can still download the original mod for good measure. Check out our interview with Wreden for more details.

I'm looking forward to more left-door-or-right-door-choosing action.

What is this mod even about? Who is Stanley?

Stanley is a symbol of the meta-narative cognitive-dissonance in a finitely interactive medium vis-a-vis the nameless office drone.

It's a great narrative choice-based game about an hour long to see all the content, with many variable endings. I shouldn't say anything else or it would ruin it!
