Elder Scrolls Online on consoles was Sony's idea

Sony's Adam Boyes says that the company helped make a plan to bring Elder Scrolls Online to consoles.

The Elder Scrolls Online has been announced for PC as well as next-gen consoles, but that wasn't always the plan. Bethesda had planned on making it a PC exclusive, but Sony's VP of publisher and developer relations Adam Boyes says they helped jump-start the console port process.

"[Elder Scrolls Online] was never planned to come to consoles, and we just kind of kept sitting with [Bethesda] and being like, 'Why not?'" Boys told Game Informer (via Polygon). "They're like, 'We're not planning it,' And I'm like, 'Well, what if we built a plan that we could do that?'"

It isn't exclusive to PlayStation 4, of course, as Bethesda has announced that it will be coming to Xbox One as well. But Boyes feels a certain pride in helping bring it to consoles. "Knowing that a game's coming to console that was never going to come to console, that's the kind of stuff that is, like, 'Yes!' You know, hugely awesome," he said.

And at the very least (for Sony), the beta is exclusive to PS4.

The decision for having it on console at launch was a big factor in why I became interested in this game, and also sort of the the key reason I'm most excited about the next generation. I lost interest in MMOs after years and years of disappointing releases following UO. Now, all my hope lies with console MMOs being able to innovate the genre. I know ESO is just going to be a port of PC Mechanics, but I'm hoping its success spawns many more console mechanic-based MMOs.

Also, I literally just remembered DC Universe exists while typing this, and now that I just bought my first PS3 last week(Along with Uncharted 1-3 and Heavy Rain) I can finally give it a go.

That's definitely something I'd like to see. While I haven't messed with ESO yet, playing FFXIV with a controller has been pretty fantastic so far, and far more comfortable for long periods.

If you just picked up your first PS4, you owe it to yourself to pick up The Last of Us. It's the main reason I bought a PS3, and it was with every penny.

It's certainly on my radar once I finish all the games I've heard about over the years but haven't been able to play. So far I've only played Uncharted 1 and I've got to say that it's a pretty terrible game. I love the music, characters, and cinema-like feel to it, but the gameplay is just so bad. I'm all for adaptive AI, and I honestly don't mind waves of enemies but the enemies take 8 bullets to put down and bounce around like they're rubberbanding all over the place. Tthe game feels almost like a shooter on rails for all the gunplay, and while the terrain negotiating is the best part, it's way too easy and there certainly isn't enough of it.

I'm just hanging in there because I spent $300 to play these games and because I went into this with the understanding 2 is a much better game. Do the shooting mechanics at least get improved, as far as the unreliable crosshairs and twitchy hard-to-kill enemies?

So PS4 has what, three of four MMO's confirmed as in development? I know PS2 is supposed to be available at launch. Have there been any announced for XBO yet?

This could be a pretty big advantage when choosing a next gen platform.

Is it all cross-platform like FFXIV?

I will be very surprised if the Xbox One version is cross-platform. Microsoft wasn't willing to let Defiance be cross-platform; I doubt they changed their tune so quickly.

Oh wow, I didn't realize FFXIV was on PS3. It's funny. I'm not a Final Fantasy fan at all (only played VII and I never made it past the first disc) but I checked this out on twitch.tv when it relaunched purely out of curiosity but found it too be of almost no interest to me. Now though, hearing it is on PS3, I'm tempted to buy it immediately,

            Thanks for the info.

It'll also be on PS4, and apparently be playable on Vita through PS4.

Don't forget Micro$haft shafted PC gamers of the entire Halo franchise starting with Halo 2 and Vista. Also, do you really care about The Elder Scrolls Online? TES games have always had pretty bad storylines and has had decreasing NPC depth with each game since Morrowind. You play it for the gameplay and the mods. The game unmodded isn't generally that good, but it has a huge variety of things to do and ways to play. Bethesda does all of them mediocre at best., while modders take it to the next level. I personally think TES Online will flop because of the lack of modding, if for no other reason (i.e. bugs.)

Why is Bethesda incapable of creating interesting NPC's like Inigo? http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/40960//?
