Total War: Rome 2 is getting an update on Friday to address crashing and hardware conflict problems. It will be the first of planned weekly updates for the immediate future.

As the saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day. Total War: Rome 2 has been hit with a flurry of bug reports and crashes upon launch, leading Creative Assembly to announce plans for weekly updates starting this Friday.

Although Rome 2 has gotten generally positive reviews, some outlets like Edge have noted performance issues--particularly on older machines. "A long, complex, and wide-ranging strategy game can boast 50-hour campaigns, but in Rome 2's current state, ten of those hours are spent waiting for the computer to take its turn," the review stated. Even less charitable are the user reviews, as many of the hundreds of negative reviews mention technical problems and feelings of being tricked. Clearly, this is a situation Creative Assembly wants to defuse as quickly as possible.

Full patch notes will be released alongside the update on Friday, but "the update will address known instances of crashes due to hardware conflicts alongside several other performance fixes." This will be the first of planned weekly updates for the immediate future, with tweaks coming to balancing, AI routines, and other features based on player feedback and their online metrics. Creative Assembly also suggests that those experiencing graphical issues visit the support site, which has settings information that should solve most issues.

I like the weekly updates over just one giant patch every month.
