The presence of female fighters has vastly increased at UFC over the past couple of years. Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche became the first female fighters to headline a UFC card earlier this year and Rousey and rival Miesha Tate are slated to be the first female coaches for the long-running reality show, The Ultimate Fighter. So it makes sense that the hard-hitting ladies of the Octagon would be included in the upcoming EA Sports UFC.

EA Sports UFC will be the first UFC game to include female MMA fighters as playable characters. Rousey and Tate will headline "an esteemed roster of female fighters," with other fighters yet to be revealed.

"Since we added the Women's Bantamweight division earlier this year, the women have impressed everyone," said UFC president Dana White. "The fights are always exciting, Ronda Rousey is as talented as any champion in the UFC and her rivalry with Miesha Tate is one of the most intense in UFC history. The female division has become a huge part of the UFC and fans will now be able to experience fighting with them in the game."

EA Sports UFC is scheduled to arrive on Xbox One and PS4 in spring 2014.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
