Just Cause 2 multiplayer beta weekend starts Saturday

It's been a month since the world last got to grappling hook around and play silly beggars with our chums, and that's far too long. Thankfully the Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod is preparing for another open beta weekend, kicking off at 1am Pacific on Saturday morning. Handily, the game's on sale this weekend too.

The latest update finally shows other players' parachutes rather than having them eerily glide through the air, improves the multiplayer UI, and fixes a few bugs.

To get in, simply download the client from the official website once the beta starts (and it has a countdown timer to remind you when that will be). You'll need the game installed too, obviously.

If you don't have Just Cause 2 yet, Ubisoft's digital store is selling it for only $3.75 today--a 75% saving. I'm pretty sure that activates on Steam, but don't hold me to it.

Look, even a video intended to show off improved hit detection can't help but be pleasingly silly:

Worth EVERY penny. I haven't had this much fun in multiplayer since BF1942 with the Shack years ago.

it's bizarre to me these guys are not distributing this so people can roll their own servers. are they gonna start charging for it or what?

You get much more players and much better feed back for debugging this way.

I think they're actually getting close to release now. I'm excited for this -- I've played it on one of the tests almost a year back and it was insanely fun.

Things are running much nicer in this version. Being in Australia with a ~300ms ping you notice every little quirk in terms of net code. And the few hours I played yesterday were fantastic. Me and a mate just spent a lot of time messing around with the completely overkill boost settings, you can basically fly around in a boat, and have plenty of not so glamorous landings. Really fun.

I think its pretty impressive to see this functionality modded in to Just Cause 2. I liked that game lot and I will definitely check this out when the mod hits a stable release. This reminds me lot of the MP of the mods for GTA that served as a proof of concept for MP in GTA4 and GTA:O. Maybe we can see some of this craziness in Mad Max or Just Cause 3.
