Weekend Confirmed 180 - Madden NFL 25, Saints Row IV

By Ozzie Mejia, Aug 30, 2013 11:00am PDT

While the gaming world turns its eyes to PAX Prime in Seattle, Weekend Confirmed holds down the home front. Hosts Garnett Lee and Jeff Cannata welcome in "Indie" Jeff Mattas and Shacknews' Ozzie Mejia to sort out this week's Nintendo announcements, including trying to make heads or tails of what the company was thinking with that 2DS design. After that, it's time to dive into games, as the team discusses Madden NFL 25, Saints Row IV, Killer Is Dead, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Hearthstone (Or is it Hurthstone?), and Shelter. The show ends with a new round of Finishing Moves and a few Super Bowl predictions, because the NFL kicks off in just six days!

  • Is anyone else almost getting frustrated with Nintendo? I love the company and their games but I kind of have to agree with Garnett and that they are missing a bunch of opportunities. I totally get why the new 2DS exists and that certain things had to be sacrificed to make it cheaper but really how much would the plastic for a second stick and a better form factor cost? Also if they really want to stay competitive with their home console then why are they not showing the same support for indies that Microsoft and Sony are? Big AAA publishers might not want to use the WiiU's features because then they have to essentially build 2 separate games for 3 consoles but indies who are looking to make a name for themselves with creativity might dive into it if giving some incentive like say higher margins or something.
I love Nintendo but am a grad student and can't afford to have my future PS4 and a Zelda box. They need to find a better way to embrace third party publishing or just go full on into being the best handheld system creator there is, making great games on affordable hardware.
