Intel Caves On Rambus
by Steve Gibson, Jul 26, 2000 5:12am PDTWell would you look at that, it looks like Intel is caving a bit on the whole Rambus memory thing they were trying to push out. According to ZDNet Intel will make a public announcement today that they plan to support SDRAM with the Pentium4.
Intel officials feel that Rambus direct RAM (RDRAM) will continue to be the memory of choice for the performance desktop. (ed: uhuh..)However, they acknowledge a need for a memory technology that will allow PC makers to deliver Pentium 4 systems at lower, "mainstream" prices. RDRAM continues to command a hefty premium over SDRAM.

RDRAM won't even be in the "high end" machines. it'll be in the "person with alot of money, and didn't do research" machine.

Fuggit. As long as RDRAM is super-expensive, people are gonna chuck it in favor of DDR / SDR. And thank goodness for it.
Yes, do evaluate.
Intel officials predict SDRAM will be available at least through the end of 2001.
And Rambus won't be filling that void exclusively either.
