Insomniac has stressed that Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus would be a return to the classic single-player adventure tropes that built the series, rather than some of its more recent experimental ideas. To that end, a new developer diary puts some time into detailing one of Ratchet's most well-known features: inventive weaponry.

The walkthrough from creative Director Brian Allgeier details several new weapons. Those include the Winterizer, which blasts holiday music and turns enemies into snowmen, the Vortex Grenade, which pulls enemies into the air, the Nightmare Box, which produces a creature to scare enemies, and the Repulsor, which acts as a gravity shotgun. Those upgrade in some unique ways as well. The Winterizer eventually drops health and ammo wrapped up as holiday gifts, the Nightmare Box lets the creatures attack enemies independently, and the Repulsor puts enemies into stasis.

That stasis mode is part of a gravity mechanic that is being stressed for Into the Nexus, with items like a grav-tether that lets Ratchet float across chasms. Clank will also get his own side-scrolling platforming segments with gravity manipulation mechanics.
