Following a little tease, Blizzard today announced an expansion pack for Diablo III, named Reaper of Souls. It'll add a new act with new enemies and locations and all that, as well as the Paladin-y-sounding Crusader class and a level cap boost to 70.

The expansion sees Malthael, once the Archangel of Wisdom, returning as the Angel of Death to snatch Diablo's black soulstone. "None can stop death," he hisses, but I imagine we'll hunt him then beat him until shiny swords and gems and hats fall out.

The adventure will visit the new city of Westmarch and the Pandemonium Fortress, with new quests and monsters. The level cap boost brings news spells and abilities to all classes too. In the end-game, new Loot Runs and Nephalem Trials should jazz things up.

Of the new Crusader, Blizzard says the plate-wearing class "uses battle magic to strengthen allies and weaken foes" which, yes, does sound a lot like Diabo II's Paladin. One imagines it's heavily reimagined like D3 does to other classes, though.

It seems Reaper of Souls will also bring the long-awaited 'Loot 2.0' drop system revamp, which will stop throwing so many garbage items at you. New, better Legendaries are promised too.

One imagines the official site will have more details on all this whenever Blizzard updates it. As for when or how this will be released, Blizzard's saying nothing. Look, a cinematic trailer:

And see the Crusader in action in this first gameplay trailer:

Only raising the level cap by 10 levels is a little bit of a downer but other than that..... Gimme

Well D2 expansion did nothing to the level cap but what please announce the following: "An alternate weapon/shield/spell setup that can be switched to via a hotkey in gameplay."

Wasn't the D2 level cap already like 99 or something insane?

They've made paragon leveling the "endgame" leveling, and there's infinitely many of them.

Without a plvl cap, it wouldn't be difficult to add a ladder in, too.

They still have a 2nd expansion planned from what I remember. I imagine that will bump it to 80 and maybe bring back talisman/charms!

Knew it was going to be a paladin/knight type character, the original D3 didn't have your classic warrior type like that

I'd blow a guy for a necromancer. I think the witch doctor already covers that realm though so it will probably be something else.

yeah but listen to him talk he's a hippy, we need a dark spellcaster, one who's dark in personality and powerset.
With the current class collection I'll probably never get more than 100 hours from a single char and never make it to the level cap.
That said I when I started playing again to refresh for ps3 release, ?i might do it again for ps4? I saw that the collective hours of my saved chars was about 200 hours with the highest at 65.

Agreed but the odds are almost nil as blizzard deluded themselves into thinking the Witch Doctor is an acceptable type of necromancer.

I'm going out of the box and going to say some kind of bard focus class.

Another obvious choice is a nature focused class (aka druid)

i kid of course. but you're right it seems they are going the templar, scoundrel, enchantress path.

i wouldnt mind a good scoundrel class, though i would think he would be more like a thief and do some backstabbing or something, than just a crossbow class (cause, obvioulsy, that would just be a different flavor demon hunter)
