Fans were none-too-pleased when Microsoft revealed that Killer Instinct would be free-to-play. However, Microsoft is sticking to its guns, revealing details on what you'll pay for, and how much it'll all cost. The base game will include one free playable character. However, additional characters will be available starting at $4.99 each. There will also be discounted character packages, which give you the "full game." The Combo Breaker Pack includes the first 8 planned characters for the game for $19.99. The Ultra Edition throws in additional character accessory packs, character costumes, and the original Killer Instinct arcade game. Six characters will be available for the game's launch later this year, including Jago, Sabrewulf, Glacius, and Thunder. Two more characters will be available post-launch. Here's some pictures of Thunder you can click on:

What's your reasoning? Pay 5 bucks and get the player you want most or pay 20 and unlock the entire game.

It's an interesting experiment. There are some fighting game fanatics that only play a few characters, so this might entice them to get into the game a character at a time.

You can still pay to unlock the whole game if you would rather do it that way.

Why do you think it's stupid? Look at it like your cable package. You only pay for the channels you watch. Or you pay for everything because you want it all.

I think it's clever and outside the box

Please. There is absolutely nothing that a company changes that costs the customers less money.

Read how it works, you get all the characters for $20 or you get them for $5 each up to a maximum of $20.

So if you want 4 characters it'll cost $15 if you change your mind and want the 8 it'll still only cost you $20.

I watch 3 channels. To get those 3 channels, I have to pay for 500 I don't watch, and don't want. Cable's not exactly the best example to use.

(And if it weren't for my wife, I'd cut the cord entirely, but that's another discussion)

Very. Fighting games are all about dipping in and out with all the characters (at least until you get super hardcore), not picking a few that look cool and only using them.

Reminds me of Savage demo that let's you play MP with retail owners. Except that game suffered from most players were only on the demo map because of so many only played the demo.

So $15 if you want 4 characters (including the free one) Very good deal. And as stated you can buy the whole game anyway if you want.

Really, this price point doesn't bother me at all. I am simply not a fan of KI's mechanics, mainly the combo breaker. After seeing the videos, it seems to me that the most annoying and broken mechanic is even far more easier to execute and is thus multitudes more broken and annoying.

I kind of like the idea of the model for some of the lesser-known fighting games that might have a chance at being reintroduced. I'm holding out hope for their next project to be a Clayfighter or a new Rise of the Robots.

The pricing scheme is fine, I am just disappointed in the fact that they have only 6 characters at launch and only 8 total planned at this point. I was expecting at least 12... the original game had 10 right?

WTF did microsoft do to this game -.- .....this game looks like crap. i loved the arcade game and microsoft just totally ripped my heart out on this game. first they decimate xb1 @ E3 (before they made their lolwe'rekidding joke changes). now they ruined 1 of the greatest arcade fighting games of all time by making people pay 5 bucks a character and destroyed their originality appearances of 1994/1995. i wasn't gonna buy a ps4 but this just drove me to buying 1 the moment i have cash. nice going microsoft on ticking me off. (btw dont even bother flaming on this comment because this will be the only time ill comment nor will i care)
