Defiance 'Castithan' pack coming August 20

Defiance's first major expansion, the Castithan Charge Pack, will hit PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on August 20.

The first expansion for Defiance has been given a date. The "Castithan Charge Pack" will hit PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on August 20 for $9.99, or as part of the season pass subscription.

As previously reported, the pack will include a new Casithan species, a Battle Arena game mode, unique Raptor vehicle, and a unique Castithan outfit. It will go on sale alongside an update for all players that will add a Sieges mode, a Duals mode, new weapons, a new Arkfall event, a new PvP map, and various tweaks like an enhanced map and chat window.

The show (and by extension, the game) was renewed for a second season, but Trion has been shaking up the studio regardless. Shortly after the renewal, it hit the team with layoffs. It said that was simply part of the natural progression from an in-development game to ongoing support, but only a few months later it shut down its San Diego office as part of a consolidation effort. Defiance development was moved to the Redwood City office, where Rift is helmed.

Is anyone still playing this? I feel like I hit the ceiling in finding better equipment ages ago and the pvp wasn't fun so I gave up.

I was until yesterday, when I got four of the five remaining achievements I needed. I'm only at 1600 EGO; I haven't decided yet whether I want to drag myself through to 2500 and finish the core game or not.

But unless the reviews are way different than I'm expecting, I don't plan to pick up the DLC. Especially since from what I hear, pretty much none of the dev staff is going along with Trion's studio "consolidation".

I downloaded it during a free weekend a couple weeks ago and it was incredibly boring. I don't think I made it past the tutorial before I quit and uninstalled.

I grabbed it when it was on sale at some point and I had some GMG credit.

It's not bad, but it also just didn't grab me. It felt too much like a normal, kinda mediocre MMO, just with shooting.

Waste of $50. I got about 5 hours out of it. I was expecting Rift events and instead got a sit around a stone and shoot it. Boring. Made it through one episode of the TV series and never went back.
