Why PlanetSide 2 doesn't support PC-PS4 cross-play

PlanetSide 2 is coming to PlayStation 4. And cross-platform play won't be allowed between the two. Why? Well, it's not just due to the whole "KB&M versus controller" debate.

Creative director Matt Higby explained to Eurogamer that while all PC content patches will find their way to the PS4, the console version requires certification that the PC version does not. A delay for approval means that synced servers and cross-platform play between the two are not possible.

That's where the idea of transferable characters comes in. "We're also talking about having character portability, so a PC character, you could transfer it to PlayStation 4, and then back," he said. "The character formats the same on both, it's just purely a matter of the server updates."

That way, even if you can't play against players on a different platform, you can move from one system to another without worry of losing your gear.
